District Finals @ Marion
Northern Michigan Christian 55 CCA 42
The Lady Cougars battled with one of the top
teams in the state on Friday night, but fell short in the district
finals for the second straight year. CCA held a brief lead in the
2nd quarter but couldn't hang on against the athleticism and
height of NMC. Rachel Thorne scored 16 points to reach over 1,000
points for her career. Congratulations Rachel on a terrific four
years. Amy Thorne added 7 points and 6 rebounds while Jamie Gemmen
chipped in 5 points for the Cougars. Coach Eads and Coach Sabo are
very proud of the ladies and the effort they showed all season.
The Lady Cougars end the season with 19 wins and 3 losses, West
Michigan D league champs, and ranked 9th in the state. They broke
many school records throughout the year. Congratulations ladies on
a memorable season. The coaches and players would like to thank
all the fans for their support on Friday night in Marion. We would
like to encourage that crowd support for all CCA sports and
activities. |

Districts @ Marion
CCA 52 Mason County Eastern 46: The
Lady Cougars reach the district finals for the second year in a row
after defeating MCE for the third time this year. The game was back
and forth for the majority of the night with each team having a
small lead. CCA scored the last seven points of the game including
key free throws by Rachel Thorne, Kija Meads, and Amy Thorne to seal
the victory. The starting backcourt for the Cougars was led by
Rachel Thorne who 19 points and four steals and Sara Geasler who
added 13 points. Chloe Balanda added 10 points while Amy Thorne
chipped in 4 points and 7 rebounds. CCA has 19 wins and 2 losses on
the season and will face traditional state power McBain Northern
Michigan Christian tomorrow night at 7:00 in Marion.
If any student wants a ride to the
game on the bus, they must sign up in the office today or tomorrow.
Bus will leave at 4:45 tomorrow. Tickets are $5. |

Catholic 65 CCA 63 OT
The Lady Cougars overcame many obstacles on
Friday night but couldn't pull out the win against the Sabers. CCA
trailed by 10 points with 6 minutes to go in the game and forced
the game into overtime. It was a great high school basketball
game.
Chloe Balanda led the Cougars with 15 points and
10 rebounds, Amy Thorne had 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists,
Rachel Thorne added 11 points, 6 assists, and 4 steals. Freshman
Jamie Gemmen chipped in 9 points and 6 rebounds.
The Lady Cougars finished the regulars season
with 18 wins and 2 losses, they also are West Michigan D League
Co-Champions.
Come support the ladies as they play at Marion
in district play. Game time is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
The team would like to see more student and
staff support at districts. Many people missed a great game on
Friday. |

The Lady Cougars ran out to a 35-2
lead after the first quarter finished strong with an impressive 58
point victory. The Lakers could not handle the defensive pressure
from the Cougars. The Thorne girls led the way with Amy having 14
points and Rachel added 12. Chloe Balanda added 11 points and Jackie
Niedzielski also go double digits with 10 points. |

64 Onekama 33
The 10th ranked Lady Cougars spoiled Onekama's
senior night as they rolled over the Portagers. Kija Meads and
Chloe Balanda each had double-doubles, with Kija having 19 points
and 15 rebounds while Chloe Balanda added 13 points and 11
rebounds. Rachel Thorne chipped in 13 points and 4 steals. CCA is
now an outstanding 17-1 on the season and 14-0 in the league.
The Lady Cougars travel to Bear Lake tonight,
bus is at 3:15 and game starts at 6. |

72 Brethren 36
The
Lady Cougars lit up the scoreboard as they were able to put away
the Bobcats early in last night's contest. It was Senior Night
to honor Rachel Thorne, Grace Kingsley, Sara Geasler, and Torri
Fry. Rachel Thorne recorded her second triple-double with 23
points, 14 steals, and 13 assists and fellow senior Sara Geasler
added 13 points while Chloe Balanda had 12 points. The bench
came in and played well and contributed greatly in the win. The
Cougars only beat Brethren by one point earlier in the season.
Coach
Eads would like to thank all the seniors for all of their time
and effort to the girls basketball program.

The Cougars used a 16-2 run in the 3rd quarter to pull away from
the Wildcats on Monday night. Rachel Thorne had another good game
with 17 points, 8 steals, and five assists while Kija Meads added
14 points, 6 rebounds, and three steals. Amy Thorne and Sara
Geasler also had strong performances for the Lady Cougars who
improve to 15-1 on the season and 12-0 in the West Michigan D
League. CCA also has moved in the state rankings, as they are
ranked 10th in the state for the first time in school history. |

CCA 61 Baldwin 11
The Lady Cougars dominated Baldwin this Friday
night as the pressure defense of the Cougars forced Baldwin into
40 turnovers. CCA was up 42-6 at the half. Rachel Thorne led the
attack with 17 points and 8 steals. Jamie Gemmen added 10 points,
Chloe Balanda had 8 points and 9 rebounds, and Sara Geasler also
added 8 points. CCA is now 14-1 overall and a perfect 11-0 in
league play to remain in first place.
The ladies are in action tonight at Walkerville.
Game is at 7, the bus leaves at 5:00. All players must be in Coach
Eads' room by 4:45. |

67 Pentwater 18: After giving up the first four points of the
game, Coach Eads called a quick time out and then the girls
responded by scoring the next 18 points. The Lady Cougars took a
32-11 lead into halftime and never looked back. Sara Geasler led
all scorers with 18 points and also six assists. Rachel Thorne had
another strong game with 16 points, 7 assists, and 7 steals. Jamie
Gemmen and Chloe Balanda also had a strong performance for the
Cougars. |

47 Hesperia 29- Hot shooting from Rachel Thorne led the Cougars
with 22 points and 5 steals. The Cougars scored the last 9 points
of the game to put the Panthers away and earn their 12th win of
the year. Amy Thorne added 10 points and 7 rebounds. The Lady
Cougars are ranked 13th in the state this week. Please come
support the Lady Cougars this Thursday as they host Pentwater. |

Providence
Christian- 53 CCA 36-The girls lost their first game of the season
as cold shooting from the floor and the line cost them a shot at
beating a tall and talented Providence team. Rachel Thorne had 11
points while Amy Thorne chipped in 9 points and 9 rebounds. Kija
Meads had a team-high 13 rebounds. The Lady Cougars are 11-1 on
the season and will face class C Hesperia tonight on the road. |

48 MCE 40- The Lady Cougars, who are ranked 12th in the state,
defeated a solid MCE team last night 48-40 to move to 11-0 on the
season. A late steal and lay-up by Kija Meads sealed the victory.
Rachel Thorne had 14 points and 4 steals, Chloe Balanda chipped in
9 points and 11 rebounds, and Kija Meads added 8 points and 9
rebounds.
CCA will host a big and talented Providence Christian team on
Friday night. Please come support the ladies and they take on
their toughest opponent of the year. |

37 Manistee Catholic 35: The Lady Cougars scored the last four
points of the game to earn a hard fought victory over the
undefeated Sabers. The game was close all night with each team
having short leads. Rachel Thorne had 10 points, 4 steals, and 4
assists to lead the Cougars, while Amy Thorne had 8 points
including two late free throws to tie the game. Kija Meads had 5
points and 5 rebounds while battling the tall all-stater from
Catholic. CCA is now 8-0 in the conference and is in first place,
and the overall record is 10-0.
Please come out and support the ladies as they host Mason
County Eastern who is in 3rd place in the league on Tuesday night,
a Cougars basketball t-shirt will be given away at halftime.
Coach Eads, Coach Sabo, and the varsity girls team would like
to thank all the fans for coming out and supporting us. We would
like to see that same enthusiasm for all home basketball games.

added 7 assists, and 6 steals. Sara Geasler added 14 points and 3
steals while Kija Meads chipped in with 6 points and 10 rebounds
to keep the Lady Cougars undefeated (9-0). CCA will host
undefeated Manistee Catholic on Thursday in a key West Michigan D
League contest. |

65 Fruitport Calvary 25: The Lady Cougars were up only one point
at halftime (20-19) and outscored the Eagles 45-6 in the second
half to remain undefeated on the season. Sara Geasler led the
charge with 20 points and four steals while Kija Meads added 9
points and 8 rebounds and Rachel Thorne scored all 9 of her points
in the second half. |

Cougars had a big league all game. |

47 Brethren 46: With the Lady Cougars trailing by 12
points entering the fourth quarter, the ladies dug deep and
outscored Brethren 17-4 in the last 8 minutes of the game.
Brethren was also undefeated in the conference going into last
night's game. Sara Geasler hit a 17 foot jump shot with six
seconds left to win the game for the Cougars. She finished the
game with 9 points. Rachel Thorne finished the game with 16
points (8 of them came in the final quarter) and 8 steals while
Kija Meads had 8 points and 9 rebounds. CCA is now
6-0 on the season and are tied for first place in the league
with Manistee Catholic.
Please

night home game of the year this Friday evening vs. Onekama.
There will be a t-shirt given away at halftime of the varsity

will host Onekama on Tuesday for their first home game. |

varsity won at MCE 51-35. The Lady Cougars led the whole way as
they win their first West Michigan D league game. Rachel Thorne
played a great game as she finished with 20 points, 4 assists, and
4 steals. Casey Seppala added 8 points and 8 rebounds while Kija
Meads finished with 5 points and 9 rebounds. CCA
travels to Pentwater on Thursday. |
