Basic Art
This course offers students a
foundation of creative tools and experiences. Studio projects are based on the
Elements and Principals of Design, Color Theory and the Elements of
Composition. Materials include both two-dimension and three-dimensional
mediums. Major artists serve as a source for analysis and inspiration through
a series of Art History projects. This course requires flexible thinking and
imagination. Students will work individually and in small groups from time to
time. The first part of the course is a series of Studio Problems designed to
clarify the content of the course. The second part of the course is a series
of open-ended problems designed to allow student to explore and interpret the
course content. At the end of the course each student will have a portfolio of
their work, which is the result of the process and the product. No special
drawing skills are necessary.
All items subject to change based

Art History assignments and quizzes
Be in your seat ready to begin at
the start of the class period. You will wait until instructed to gather
materials or this action will result in a tardy.
Tardiness is unacceptable, after
being marked tardy three times you will receive a detention for each following
offense. Missing fifteen minutes will have you marked absent and not excused.
Unless given permission, course
work or homework that is not part of this class will be confiscated and not
returned.
Don’t touch or handle a project
or possession without permission.
Treat others, school property and
yourself with respect.
When you get materials or tools
out, return them to their proper place clean and ready to use. Clean up work
area so the next person to use the space will find it ready. This
responsibility is shared! You
will be given time to take care of your area after each working session,
failure to do so will result in penalties.
Art materials are expensive; don’t take any more than you need. It is easier to get more than to put back or store materials. Don’t waste- conservation is key!

Assignments
will be accompanied by an assessment rubric or will be considered incomplete.
Each
unit or roughly 2-3 weeks you will choose finished pieces to present for a
critique. These will be done individually as well as in groups. Points are
available for this portion.
You are
also responsible for any assignments outside of the regular class work. Art
history, research work, or critique write-ups will be the content focused on
for this section of the course. These will be assigned through out the term
and are an opportunity to receive points.
Journal
entries are to be thoughtful and reflective, they accompany each unit of study
and combined with in class participation during critiques are worth points.
You will be accountable for vocabulary that you will need in discussing works of art. Along with vocabulary a variety of other topics will be assessed weekly. .
