$10 Sports Physical Clinic May 13. Please remember that if your child is thinking about participating in competitive athletics at CCA next year that s/he will need a valid sports physical on file with the school (one given on or after April 15 of 2008) before being allowed to practice or play.

Mrs. Catherine Balanda is generously donating her time as well as the proceeds from the clinic back to the school’s athletic department, so not only do students receive their physicals at a reduced cost, the athletic deparment benefits too.  Forms have been sent home with 4th-6th grade students, and additional forms are available in the office.  Please note that they must be signed and filled out completely in order for Mrs. Balanda to conduct the physical.

Elementary physicals will be done on Tuesday, May 13 from 10:00-1:30 in the elementary gym.

Due to a scheduling conflict, the date for middle/high school physicals has been changed from May 22 to May 13.  After finishing at the elementary school, Mrs. Balanda will start with middle school girls at 2:00 in the high school gymnasium.

CCA Exploring the Possibility of Offering a Preschool Program for 4-Year-Olds.

Administrators are trying to gauge the interest families have in a tuition-free preschool program at Crossroads Charter Academy for 4-year-olds.                       The pre-school would be available for children who turn 4 by December 1 and who do not turn 5 until after December 1.

We would like to know how many students would possibly enroll for either the 2008-09 or 2009-2010 school years.

If you or someone you know has a child that you would consider enrolling in a 4-year-old preschool program either of the next two school years, please stop by the office to pick up an interest survey form or call the elementary office, 231-796-6589 and leave your name and the school year your child would be entering the program.

Homework Hints: Be a Role Model

Let Go of Responsibility: Avoid rescuing your child from homework emergencies.  All kids, at some point, forget their homework or put it off until it becomes a crisis.  When that happens, avoid stepping in to fix things.  Instead, guide your child through the steps needed to salvage the situation.  If he’s forgotten his assignments, for example, sit with him while he checks the school’s homework web page or calls a classmate.  If an assignment cannot be completed on time, instead of writing a note to the teacher yourself, have your child write it, explaining why the work is late and requesting an extension.  Both of you should sign the note.  Letting your child take responsibility for his mistakes gives him valuable problem-solving experience.
