Meet
Mr. Fab!
Third Graders
at CCA are studying the Classification of Animals!
There are five vertebrate groups that we remember with the name
MR. FAB:
Mammals
Reptiles
Fish
Amphibians
Birds
In lieu of a test on our animal unit, students in our class were given a choice
of 4 projects. Each student must complete only one culminating
activity. Please read below if you need help completing your project.
Parents, please be available to
help students with research, advice, and spelling. However, the students
are responsible to do the WORK!
As
always, please feel free to email me with questions or comments:

Help
for Classification Activity – making a picture book
Your picture book must have AT LEAST five pages and a cover.
Each of the following Mr. Fab groups must
EACH have a page: Mammals,
Reptiles, Fish, Amphibians, and Birds. On
each Mr. Fab page, include the list of “How to
Spot” each one (already sent home with students).
You may rewrite the lists in your own handwriting, or just cut it out and
glue it on the appropriate page. Also,
you should have at least 10 pictures for each Mr. Fab
group. You may draw, copy, or cut out pictures from books,
magazines, and websites – get a parent’s help!
Help for Classification Activity – writing a story
On the following page, write a story pretending you are a wild animal.
You can choose to be any animal, as long as it is a VERTEBRATE animal (has a
backbone).
Make a very interesting story with many DETAILS and be sure to include:
Ř
Where you live
Ř
How you find food
Ř
What you see around you
Ř
What you like and don't like about being this animal
Help
for Classification Activity – writing a letter to Binder Park Zoo
Begin your letter by saying your name, your grade, and where you live. Then
explain what you have been learning about animals – be SPECIFIC.
Next, you should include at least three QUESTIONS you want to know about
different animals. Lastly, explain what you like about animals.
Then sign your name at the bottom, under the line
“Sincerely
Help
for Classification Activity – making three posters
You have chosen to make THREE posters.
Each poster will have a Venn Diagram. Use the Animal Expert’s
Guide (already sent home with students) to find out what is the same and
different about each group.
Here is a small sample of what one of your Venn Diagrams will look
like. I have included only one fact
in each section. You will need to add several more facts..
