2nd Grade:
We're working on paper clay sculptures. Check back here for them soon.
We're studying Marc Chagall. He likes to paint interesting pictures that show how things look in his imagination. He paints people upside down and sideways and in lots of creative colors. We created pictures in his style by spinning our paper and then drawing. We got to use oil pastels for this project - messy but fun!
We have finally begun our painting project! We are learning about the artist Andy Warhol. He liked to paint everyday objects and lots of them!
His work is on display at the Grand Rapids Art Museum through June. Check it out if you get a chance! Also, play a fun Andy Warhol quiz game online.
We created jungle collages after learning about the artist Henri Rousseau.
We are talking about symmetry! Our faces, our bodies, and most furniture and architecture are all symmetrical.
We are learning about the artist Georgia O'Keefe. She is famous for her large paintings of flowers and animal bones. Her paintings are very simple with bold colors. We are created artworks of flowers too, using glue and chalk pastels.
Our class learned about Pablo Picasso. We learned that he used many different styles in his art. One of his styles is called Cubism. Cubist art breaks objects into cubes and rearranges a person's facial features. We created our own Cubist portraits.
