4th Grade Class Produces a Book
Mr. Lamphiear’s 4th Grade class wrote a book! Part of the writing curriculum in 4th grade is the informative writing process. Writing with the purpose of informing the reader about a topic. Each student researched a dinosaur of their choice and wrote about it. They illustrated a scientific drawing of their dinosaur. Through this process, the students became “experts” on their chosen dinosaur. This project encouraged student’s do do their best work because it was for a “real” book” that will go into the C.C.A library. This provided an accurate assessment of the student’s informative writing abilities. Mrs. Labaube, the art teacher, worked with the class to create the cover design. A high school student, Markieth Bunker-Cass supported students with research in Mr. Lamphiear’s class as part of her career center program in education. This project integrated multiple academic disciplines, highly engaged the students in their learning and fostered a sense of community among the students. Having the book in our library is part of the 4th grade’s class legacy that will be there long after they are in 4th grade!
